Rajasthan is India at its most dramatic. A 7-day road trip covering Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, and Udaipur is the gold standard of Indian travel.
Day 1–2: Jaipur (The Pink City)
Start at the Amber Fort — best visited early morning to beat the crowds. City Palace, Hawa Mahal, and Jantar Mantar fill Day 2. The evening Bapu Bazaar is great for shopping for block prints and blue pottery.
Day 3: Jaipur → Jodhpur (The Blue City)
The 6-hour drive through the Aravalli range is scenic. Check into a heritage haveli. Mehrangarh Fort is one of India's most impressive — allow at least 3 hours.
Day 4: Jodhpur → Jaisalmer (The Golden City)
Jaisalmer Fort is a living fort — people still reside inside it. Patwon ki Haveli and the evening market are unmissable. Book your camel safari camp in advance.
Day 5: Sam Sand Dunes
The Sam Sand Dune camel safari (30 km from Jaisalmer) is a desert camp experience with folk music, bonfire, and a stunning Milky Way sky far from light pollution.
Day 6: Jaisalmer → Udaipur
Fly or take an overnight bus. Udaipur is the City of Lakes — romantic and photogenic. Lake Pichola boat ride, City Palace museum, and Jagdish Temple.
Day 7: Udaipur Leisure
Saheliyon ki Bari, local market, and a sunset dinner by the lake.
Best Time: October to March. Rajasthan in summer (April–June) can hit 48°C.
Getting Around: Hire a car + driver for the full route — typically ₹6,000–8,000 for the entire trip.
